May 28, 2026: ZAP Search is Now Generally Available
We're excited to announce that ZAP Search is now generally available to all Zus customers.
What's new in GA
ZAP Search was previously available in a beta. With this GA release, we've improved
search coverage so that all data within clinical documents is now indexed and searchable.
Previously, some content within clinical documents was not being surfaced in search results.
What is ZAP Search?
ZAP Search lets care teams search across all clinical documents retrieved by Zus for a
given patient — helping you find the right information faster, without having to manually
scroll through records.
It's especially useful when you need to locate:
- Evidence of a screening or procedure
- Symptoms mentioned in clinical notes
- Historical documentation of a condition
- References to hospitalizations or encounters
- Or other clinical information available in documents retrieved by Zus
How it works
Enter a keyword or phrase into the ZAP Search field. Results are returned from clinical
documents associated with the patient, sorted by relevance based on how closely document
text matches your query and how frequently the term appears. You can also sort results
by date.
Each result surfaces a text snippet for quick context. Click any result to open the side
panel, where you can navigate to the full source document in the document viewer.
Smart Search
ZAP Search includes Smart Search, which automatically expands your query to include
closely related terms. For example, searching hypertension will also return results for
high blood pressure, elevated blood pressure, HTN, and other related terms.
You can toggle Exact match only at any time to disable Smart Search.
Current limitations
ZAP Search currently searches the contents of CDA documents only. PDFs, images, and non-CDA files are not yet searchable — we plan to add support for those in future releases.
Get started
ZAP Search is available now in the ZAP for all supported access points, including the
Zus Web Application, embedded ZAPs, and EHR integrations.

What's next?
We're considering making ZAP Search available as an API so it can be integrated directly
into your own workflows and applications. We'd love to hear from you: how valuable would
API access to ZAP Search be for your team?
