September 21, 2026: Restricted data tagging updates for abortion, gender-affirming, and contraceptive care

Zus automatically tags specially regulated data so it isn't shared where it shouldn't be. We've refreshed the code sets behind that tagging against the current value sets published by the Value Set Authority Center (VSAC), and contraception records are now included.

What changed

Contraception is now tagged. Contraceptive management records — counseling and surveillance — receive the SEX specially regulated label, joining abortion and gender-affirming care as categories covered under California AB 352 (Cal. Civ. Code § 56.101).

Abortion and gender-affirming code sets are refreshed. We pulled the latest VSAC value sets, adding new ICD-10, CPT, SNOMED CT, and LOINC codes to both categories.

Existing customer-written data is backfilled. Resources you previously wrote to us were re-evaluated and tagged under the updated code sets.

What this means for you

First-party resources that match these codes also receive the R (Restricted) confidentiality label, which withholds them from other Builders, from Lens summarization, and from responses to CommonWell and Carequality. Third-party resources receive the specially regulated label only. No action is required on your side.
